Catherine VanNetta, Ph.D.
Wiebking Master Teacher, Mathematics
Dr. VanNetta attended Towson University where she earned a B.S. in mathematics in 1988 and a M.Ed. in secondary education in 1994. In 2000, she earned a Ph.D. in mathematics curriculum and instruction at the University of Maryland. Catherine taught six years in the Howard County Public School System at Mt. Hebron, Wilde Lake, and Oakland Mills High Schools. In addition, she taught for five years in the Ingenuity Project at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore City. Other experiences include two years teaching at a middle school, two years teaching at a community college, working on two NSF funded grants, supervision of secondary mathematics UM interns, and teaching in-service professional development courses. She is interested in teaching mathematics for understanding through effective classroom discourse and technology.
As the Wiebking Master Teacher, Dr. VaNetta plays an integral part in the recruitment and advising of Terrapin Teacher students. Dr. VanNetta is also responsible for collaborating with principals and teachers at our partner schools in preparation for TLPL 101.
