Dr. Arthur N. Popper is co-director emeritus and co-founder (with Dr. Daniel Chazan) of Terrapin Teachers. He stepped down as co-director in 2018 but continues on the program Advisory Committee. Dr. Popper is actively engaged in research, writing, and editorial work. His primary research focus is in on the effects of anthropogenic (human-made) sound on aquatic animals, a growing national and international issue. This work has resulted in a number of recent publications that focus on how sounds, such as those produced during off-shore oil and gas exploration and construction of off-shore wind farms, might be regulated to protect fishes. Dr. Popper also continues as editor of a series of books on hearing, the Springer Handbook of Auditory Research, and as editor of the science magazine, Acoustics Today.
